iPhone 12, in pieces: where do the components of each phone actually come from?

iPhone 12 is not cheap. And if you compare it directly to the best Android phones, it doesn’t necessarily excel in specs. But it handles all tasks very well. But where do the components that make it up come from?

In January 2007, the first iPhone was introduced. 14 years later we are talking about some major changes. Moreover, the newest model is the first to be released in four versions: iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Apart from the number of cameras, their capabilities, and the size of the battery, there are no other significant differences.

For all this, as a Romanian, you work quite a lot. You spend almost 38 days just to be able to pay for your phone. But if you want it, if you need it, you can certainly justify it in one way or another.

In each of the four iPhone 12 versions, there are several key components: the screen, the processor, the cameras, the battery and the 5G antenna. which you can, in a way, “navigate”.

Screens for new phones are provided by Samsung. We are talking about OLED technology, and these are called Apple Super Retina XDR. They are bright, faithfully reproduce the colors and were named, at the time of the launch of the iPhone 12, the best in the world.

The processor is a special subject. It is developed by Apple, based on ARM technology, and is produced by third parties who specialize in such a thing. Apple is involved, both with the A14 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12, and with the M1 chip in the new computers, only in terms of optimization. It has no processor factory. For current processors it was based on TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).

As for the cameras, the sensors are from Sony. In fact, Sony is the largest supplier of photo sensors for phones. Samsung is a company that wants to beat Sony, so the fight between the two could, in the coming years, lead to an accelerated development of technology. In any case, Apple has chosen a conservative approach: 12-megapixel sensors with a larger sensor only on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and software optimizations.
